AFCON Ghana's Final squad 2012

Renne defender John Boye and the leading goal king in Ghana, Emmanuel Baffoe have been dropped from the Black Stars squad preparing for the Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

An impeccable source in camp confirmed that John Boye will be returning to his base in France but Baffoe will remain as the medical team monitors the injury situation of lead striker Asamoah Gyan.

Coach Goran Stevanovic early on named a provisional 25 man squad all of who converged at Rustenberg, South Africa in preparation towards the biennial tournament which begins on January 21.

The team is running against time to present its final 23 man list to Caf on Wednesday, failure which it will be fined.

Given the situation with Gyan it is very likely the Black Stars may miss the deadline, but the source said Ghana is ready to pay the fine if it becomes necessary.

The final 23 man list is as follows;

Facebook Chat integration with iChat in Mac OS X

One of the hidden gems of Facebook Chat is that it integrates quite nicely into iChat. Here’s how to set that up.

First go to iChat >> Preferences

Click Accounts.

Click on the plus in the lower left corner to add another account.

In the account setup window, select Jabber for the Account Type.

In the Account Name field, enter your Facebook screen name @chat.facebook.com. Then enter your Facebook password.

Click the arrow next to Server Options to show the Server and Port fields. Enter chat.facebook.com for the Server, and 5222 for the Port. Make sure to have Use SSL unchecked.

Click Done and iChat will automatically sign you in and display your Facebook contacts. By default, it will show up as a separate group from your other contacts. If you want one single list instead, click View in the menubar and uncheck Use Groups.

Now you’ll have your Facebook friends in iChat along with the rest of your buddies.

US web portal Yahoo has named Scott Thompson, the president of online payments firm Paypal, as its new head.

He will fill the vacancy left by Carol Bartz, who was dismissed as chief executive in September after failing to turn around the company's fortunes.

Mr Thompson has headed Paypal, the payments division of eBay, since 2008, during which time its userbase doubled.

Yahoo is currently undergoing a strategic review as it has failed to keep up with rivals such as Google.

The US firm's key products, beside its search engine, include photo sharing site Flickr and its webmail platform.

However, its domination of webmail - and the ancillary services it offers its email account holders - is under threat as younger users migrate to social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

'Dark knight'

"Scott brings to Yahoo a proven record of building on a solid foundation of existing assets and resources to reignite innovation and drive growth, precisely the formula we need," said Yahoo chairman Roy Bostock.

He said that Mr Thompson would focus on Yahoo's core businesses, but would also work closely with the board on its strategic review of what new investments to make and existing business lines to dispose of.

"He's a dark knight," said Stuart Miles of retail technology blogsite Pocket-lint. "He's a nuts-and-bolts guy rather than a captain of industry."

The company faces two choices, according to Mr Miles - either to focus on product innovation like Google has done, or else to focus on media by promoting itself as a content hub.

"Yahoo.com has a killer amount of news and information," he said. "A lot of people see Yahoo as a media company.

"But he's a tech guy rather than a media guy. It's not clear whether he will focus on innovating products (which Yahoo has tried and failed to do) or focus on content creation."

Markets gave the news a cool reception. Shares in Yahoo were down 3.1% at the close of trading in New York.

Shares in Paypal's parent, eBay, closed down 3.77%. The broader Nasdaq tech index closed up 0.33%.

Yahoo's share price has stagnated at about $15 ever since late 2008, refusing to go above $20, after it rejected an offer from Microsoft to buy up the company at $33 a share.

Revenues at the firm have stagnated, particularly compared with leading search engine Google, and Yahoo has had to lay off workers four times over the past three years.

The poor performance prompted Yahoo's board to ignominiously turf out Carol Bartz in September last year.

Tim Morse, who had been standing in as chief executive, will return to the role of chief financial officer when Mr Thompson takes over on 9 January.

AZONTO 2011into 2012

Azonto is an original Ghanaian expressive dance and music form. Azonto Dance form incorporates complex co-ordinated body movement and non-verbal communication in a rhythmic fashion in very few one-two timed steps. Just like most African dances, knee bending and hip movements are rudiments to dancing it. The dance has effectively evolved from a few rudimentary moves to embrace depictions of washing, driving, boxing, grooming, praying, swimming, and others. Generally, the dance reflects the creativity and rich sense of humour of the Ghanaian people. The dance, which is usually performed with an accompanying smile, evolved from the combination of several local dance moves that originated from the southern-most part of Ghana during the early 2000s. The dance has evolved with the fast pace dance culture of modern West Africa. It is also true that before the dance became famous, youth in senior high schools of Ghana had a similar but different way of doing the dance. A modification of that is what we see today. It involved a similar movement of the feet, hands, and hips and, at the end of every move, a gun shot was mimicked with the hand and, if possible, the mouth. Azonto, when taught effectively can be learned within five minutes, according to experienced Azonto teachers.

The dance was made very popular by Ghanaian football star Asamoah Gyan in his goal celebrations for his club and during matches of the Ghana Black Stars. Azonto has been further commercialized with its inclusion in music lyrics and music video clips. Examples of such songs include African Girls by Castro, Shashewowo by Stay Jay, U Go Kill Me by Sarkodie, Wadi Mi Sika by Vibe Squad, Yenko Nkoaa by Eduwoji, Keche's Sorkode, Azonto by Fuse ODG which features Tiffany, and more recently Obuu Mo by EL, which specifically mentions the Azonto style of dance and features people dancing Azonto in the video clip. In December, 2011, the Azonto fever in Ghana was heightened when an ace Ghanaian disk jokey, DJ Black of Joy FM, released his Azonto Mix. This was a selection of popular hiplife tracks that make use of the Azonto dance rhythm. In the US, this dance is taking over the dance scene especially in colleges. Ghanaian students in Grinnell college [led by His Blackness, DJ Kojo] have been known to organize Azonto parties during the semester.

Dede Ayew Wins BBC player of the year

Ghana and Marseille winger Andre "Dede" Ayew has been named the BBC's African Footballer of the Year for 2011.

The 21-year-old took over a third of the votes to follow in the footsteps of his father, Abedi "Pele" Ayew, who won the inaugural BBC award in 1991.
Ayew beat Yaya Toure, Gervinho, Samuel Eto'o and Seydou Keita to the title.
"I'm honoured and surprised to receive this prestigious award, especially considering the great players who have won it in the past," said Ayew.
