Facebook sues alleged clickjacking spammer sparking row

Facebook screenshot Some analysts have linked Facebook's spam crackdown to an imminent stock flotation

Facebook is suing a marketing firm, accusing it of "spreading spam through misleading and deceptive tactics".

Adscend Media is alleged to have carried out "clickjacking".

The practice involves placing posts on the social network which include code that causes the links to appear on the users' homepages as a "liked" item without their permission. The links are designed to take users to other sites.

Adscend Media said it "vehemently denied" the "false claims".

Accusations

Facebook likened its security efforts to an "arms race" and said that it was committed to pursuing "bad actors".

"Facebook's security professionals have made tremendous strides against this particular form of attack and we are intent on eradicating it completely," said Craig Clark, the firm's lead litigation counsel.

"We will continue to use all tools at our disposal to ensure that scammers do not profit from misusing Facebook's services."

Washington State also filed a related lawsuit. Its lawyers said that they believed that this was the first time any state had gone to court to combat spam on the social network.

"We don't 'like' schemes that illegally trick Facebook users into giving up personal information or paying for unwanted subscription services through spam," said the state's attorney general, Rob McKenna.

Mr McKenna's office said that Adscend Media had earned as much $1.2m (£766,000) a month from the practice.

Strong denial

However, the accused firm released a statement on Friday evening which said: "At no time did we engage in the activity alleged in the complaints.

"Adscend Media strictly complies with its legal obligations under federal and state law. We are undertaking an investigation to determine whether any of Adscend Media's affiliates engaged in the activity alleged by the Attorney General's office and Facebook.

"If they did, we are fully certain that the activity was conducted without the company's knowledge."

The firm's lawyer went on to accuse the Washington State authorities of being "irresponsible".

"We find it deeply troubling that the Attorney General's office made a public spectacle of these serious allegations without first questioning the company as part of its investigatory process and, even more inexplicably, without notifying the company that the complaint was being filed," said Mark Rosenberg.

He added that Adscend Media was now prepared to pursue a defamation action against those "responsible for tarnishing the reputation of the company".

Invisible buttons

Facebook has posted an article about the case in which it explained that it believed the "scam" had worked by exploiting a vulnerability in people's internet browsers that allowed its 'Like' button to be hidden.

"Once the 'Like' button is made invisible, scammers can overlay pictures and other content, to trick the user to click on the invisible 'Like' button," it said.

"First, Facebook users are encouraged to click the 'Like' button on the scammers' Facebook Pages, which then alerts their friends to the existence of the page. Then they are told that they cannot access the content unless they complete an online survey or advertising offer."

It said one case had involved a link promising to show a man who had taken a picture of his face every day over eight years.

Facebook said that the content often had not existed, and users had been directed to third-party sites. It alleged that "the scammers receive money for each misdirected user".

Stock sale

Facebook said that less than 4% of the content shared on its site was currently spam.

The internet security firm, Sophos, acknowledged that the network was trying to combat the problem, but suggested further steps should be taken.

"Facebook tried to introduce anti-clickjacking technology to fight the problem, but it was never entirely satisfactory," said the Sophos's senior technology consultant Graham Cluley.

"What would have been good would have been if Facebook had introduced a 'confirmation' dialog every time a user 'likes' a page on a third-party website. That way, the clickjackers would have been able to trick you into clicking like but you would still have had to confirm that you really wanted to share the message with your online friends.

"In the run-up to IPO [initial public offering], we're sure to see Facebook doing more to present itself as company that is fighting security threats like this."

This is the second time this month that Facebook has accused a group of illegal activity on its site. Last week it named several Russia-based suspects who it said were responsible for a malware attack known as the "Koobface worm".

Multiple reports suggest that the network may float its stock within the next four months. Bloomberg says the firm may sell a minority stake for $10bn, valuing the firm at 10 times the price.

Making a perfect Resume using Social Media

Today Kelly will share her knowledge on making a perfect resume using social media. Job seeking can be made a lot easier if you follow these simple tips to give your resume that professional look.

With the ever increasing use of Social Media Platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and a host of others, job seeking and researching has changed quite a lot. The platforms give the job seeker a forum that enables to reach out to recruiters and key decision makers at their target organizations and cut the extra layers.

While the Social Media space is a huge benefit to the job seekers but it should be used in conjunction with the traditional forms of resume and walk-ins. The Social media outlets serve to enhance the more traditional forms like resumes and provide them with a cutting edge which can make the difference between a job seeker and a job holder.

Some of the things that should be kept in mind while drafting a resume and using Social media are:

1. Give a Link to your Online Social Profiles

The resume should have a link to your online profiles especially Linkedin, Twitter and Facebook so as to give you a human face. This ensures transparency and provides a complete profile to potential recruiters.

Making a perfect resume using social media - Give links to your profiles on your resume

Please do keep in mind that your online profiles should be clean and nothing objectionable or offending should be posted.

2. Update your Social Profiles Regularly

When you provide links to your profiles, make sure that these are updated and do not have outdated information. By updated we don’t mean, post anything, rather post interesting content. The presence of interesting content will always help you gain recommendations and earn more profile views.

Update your Profiles regularly on your social platforms

Keep a tab and check all your profiles especially in online professional communities and platforms.

3. Give only a piece, not the Whole Pie!

When you post information from your resume to your online profiles, do check it once and do not copy the entire information as some of it may be confidential like projects and other company related details.

Respect your privacy - choose what goes on your resume

You should also withhold some info for you to discuss during the interview. You have to maintain a nice balance and then decide what to post and what to keep private.

4. Always use relevant Keywords

When you post an online profile or resume, use relevant keywords to describe skills and expertise as most of the recruiters use Google or resume parser applications that produce results based on keywords.

making a perfect resume using social media - use relevant keywords to describe yourself

You may need to stuff your resume with relevant industry jargon, skills and project keywords but do not overdo it. This will ensure that your resume or profile comes up top in the searches and you can land that dream job.

5 ways to tweak your device for faster broadband connection

Slow internet? Learn the 5 ways to tweak your computer for faster broadband internet! These tips will surely overhaul your PC to provide you the best internet experience on your broadband connection.

It is always great to see that our community is embracing the ever growing popularity of the computer and internet everyday. But as expected in situations like these there are several problems that needs to be addressed.

A lot of people invest their time into getting the best computer and internet service only to find out they can’t enjoy it. In most cases these people blame their ISP for these problems but it is very obvious, the problem can as well be with their computer. This blog post will be giving you 5 ways to tweak your computer for faster broadband internet and to enjoy better internet access.

1. Always Shut Down Your Computer Properly, and Regularly

The first thing you have to do is to ensure you’re always shutting down your computer properly and regularly. A computer’s life can be compared to a human’s life. Because even though computers can be active for a longer period of time than humans, they still need rest, which in most cases a simple restart might be enough.

Shut Down your computer regularly

So many people hibernate their computer for weeks or months and then end up wondering why their system isn’t that effective or why some software applications aren’t working well with their computer. Always make sure you shut down your computer at least once in a week. And when you shut down, don’t just shut down by switching your computer off but by using the option provided in the start menu panel of your computer.

2. Always Keep Your Desktop Clean

A lot of us clutter our desktop with applications we have no need for and the reality is that so many of these application use a large percentage of our CPU. Thus this leads our computer to become slower than it ought to be.

Always keep your computer desktop clean

To really get the best performance on your computer, make sure you keep your desktop clean by ensuring there are minimal icons on your desktop. This means you shouldn’t be downloading files from the internet directly to your desktop. You can easily make things easier by creating folders to help you organize a particular group of files and applications. This will bring about great results on the long run.

3. Do a Regular System Check, and Uninstall Unused Applications

The next thing you can do to ensure your computer becomes more stable to enjoy a faster internet is to do regular system checks to see how many applications you have installed on your computer. Also decide which ones are really necessary and which ones should be removed.

Uninstall unwanted programs from your computer

The less number of applications you have on your computer the faster it can be, so make it a duty to be pruning your computer on a regular basis.

4. Use a Better Internet Browser

The internet browser you use can also have a great impact on how fast your internet will be or which results you will get. So always make sure, you use the best browser available to you. For example, i find that using a browser like Google Chrome is faster than most of the other browsers out there so I use it when I need to get things done faster.

5. Always Clear Your Private Data

Another thing I have observed is that the more websites I access on my computer the slower my browser becomes, and I notice a great increase in internet speed after clearing my private data.

5 ways to tweak your computer for faster broadband internet - Clear your private data from your browser

Whenever you visit a website it stores a cookie and sometimes downloads files to your computer. In most cases these files use a particular percentage of your computer memory. Clearing your private data regularly will make your computer faster for better internet usage.

How to Create a Google Plus Brand Page

During the initial launch, Google Plus was limited to personal profiles unlike it’s rival Facebook which had a platform where brands can create pages for themselves. Plus was then a platform for connecting people to people and not with brands.During the initial phase it never allowed Brands to Create profiles for themselves by imposing strict name checks while creating the profile. In 2011 November Google however released it’s equivalent of the Facebook Pages, which they have termed as Google Plus Brand Pages.

Creating a Google Plus Brand Page is very easy, and you wont take more than a minute to do that.

Creating a Brand Page on Google Plus

If you want to create a Google Plus Brand page, head over to this link https://plus.google.com/pages/create

You will be asked to pick a Category to which your business belongs. Pick one of them. If you are not sure what category your business belongs to, you can choose the “Other” Category as I did. You will be asked to fill in some  information like Name of the Page, and the URL of your Blog. You can see that I have given BloggerPlugins as the Page name and http://www.bloggerplugins.org as the link to my website.Creating Google Plus Brand Page - Pick Category

Now you can enter a 10 word tag line and add a profile photo. The tag line will be displayed on your Brand Page and it should be something that gives a quick idea of what your Blog is all about. I have given my Tagline as “Tutorials and Gadgets for Blogger”

Creating Google Plus Brand Page - Tag Line and Profile Photo

The next step is the most important of all. By now your Brand Page has been created and you have to let the world know of it. The first thing that you could do is to let the people in your Circles know about your Brand Page. The next screen will help you do just that.It will prompt you to share your page with those in your circles. You can choose whom do you want to share it with and  post it to your Stream.

Creating Google Plus Brand Page - Share Page to Google Plus

Click the Finish Button and you have successfully created your Google Plus Page. Wasn’t that dead simple?

If you want to  have more people who have your page in their Circles, then you will have to promote your Brand Page. One way of doing it is by using a Google Plus Page Badge on your Blog.

Senegal's Teranga Lions ready to roar in Group A

BBC Sport Rodolfo Bodipo Equatorial Guinea captain Rodolfo Bodipo, who has been on the books of Spain's Deportivo La Coruna since 2006, will shoulder the hopes of a nation

Group A pits tournament co-hosts - and debutants - Equatorial Guinea against surprise qualifiers Libya, Nations Cup regulars Zambia and Senegal, one of the tournament outsiders.

Until the last round of matches, the group will be played in Bata on the Equatorial Guinea mainland.

EQUATORIAL GUINEA

EQ GUINEA FACTFILE

  • Nickname: Nzalang Nacional (National Lightning)
  • Coach: Gilson Paulo
  • Captain: Rodolfo Bodipo
  • Nations Cup record: Tournament debutants
  • Fifa ranking: 151

The Nzalang Nacional are the weakest team to stage an Africa Cup of Nations in living memory - with their Fifa ranking of 151st the lowest of any host since the system began.

Behind the likes of Samoa, Lesotho and Turkmenistan, Equatorial Guinea's preparations for their first Nations Cup have been far from ideal with the federation's favoured coach resigning on two separate occasions last year.

At great expense, seasoned African coach Henri Michel had taken charge in January 2011 on what he labelled a 'commando mission' - his aim being to qualify a team he called the worst at the tournament for the knock-out stages.

Yet the Frenchman succeeded in spreading little more than disharmony in his twelve months in the job - given his preference to field naturalised players with next-to-no link to the country over players with full Equatorial Guinea heritage.

Did you know?

Despite the fact that Equatorial Guinea are making their Nations Cup debut, the country's president has targetted the players with winning the tournament itself

After resigning for a second and final time last month, Michel's departure paved the way for a far-improved mood in the camp, according to Spain-based midfielder Juvenal Edjogo-Owono.

But new Brazilian coach Paulo Gilson, who was appointed just 18 days before the finals, has still selected a number of naturalised players in his squad - Danilo (Brazil), Lawrence Doe (Liberia), Narcisse Ekanga (Cameroon) and Ben Konate (Ivory Coast) among them.

"This is not a problem for us [now] because we are only thinking about the competition and preparing well for this," Juvenal told BBC Sport in the run-up to Saturday's opening clash against Libya.

Equatorial Guinea hardly had a football stadium worthy of the name until 2003 but the packed crowds at home matches will expect plenty from captain Rodolfo Bodipo, former Real Madrid player Javier Balboa and Juvenal himself despite the side's limitations.

LIBYA

LIBYA FACTFILE

  • Nickname: Mediterranean Knights
  • Coach: Marcos Paqueta
  • Captain: Samir Aboud
  • Nations Cup record: Making third appearance
  • Best Performance: Runners-Up (1982)
  • Fifa ranking: 63

Against a backdrop of civil war, Libya's footballers achieved the most stunning qualification for the Nations Cup - as they overcame considerable odds to qualify for only the second finals in their history (the first of their three appearances came when hosting the competition in 1982).

They hurdled the challenges of Ramadan affecting their opening game, their team doctor dying on the eve of their second qualifier and then the break-out of the anti-Gaddafi revolution, which prompted one player to abandon football for the frontlines.

Forced to play two of their three 'home' qualifiers in neutral Mali and Egypt, Libya qualified despite the lack of competitive football for most of their players - with the Libyan league have stopped in March.

Libya's Brazilian coach Marcos Paqueta Paqueta was so loyal to Libya he paid his own way for much of qualifying

"To gain some match fitness, many players moved to clubs in Tunisia and Egypt; fitness levels are the main concern as many players have not played enough football in the last year and a half, so that could be the key factor," says Libyan sports journalist Bara Taufik.

However, just as in qualifying, sheer willpower is likely to assist a team who say they are playing for a new Libya and who have new colours (red and white rather than green), a new flag and a new nickname - the Mediterranean Knights, since the previous nickname ('The Greens') had strong Muammar Gaddafi overtones.

Many Libyan footballers have criticised the lack of opportunities to play overseas during the Gaddafi years - so expect some determined displays as players from one of Africa's strongest footballing regions put themselves in the continent's largest shop window.

Did you know?

The star of Libya's last Nations Cup campaign - Tarek El Taib - has been ostracised at home after calling the anti-Gaddafi rebels 'rats and dogs'

But any move may have come too late for two of Brazilian coach Marcos Paqueta's key performers since goalkeeper Samir Aboud is 39 while technically-gifted playmaker Ahmed Sa'ad is 32.

With a largely semi-professional squad, the displays of Portugal-based defensive midfielder Jamal Abdallah - who has contested every Uefa Europa League game for SC Braga this season - could prove critical.

SENEGAL

SENEGAL FACTFILE

  • Nickname: Teranga Lions
  • Coach: Amara Traore
  • Captain: Mamadou Niang
  • Nations Cup record: Making 12th appearance
  • Best Performance: Runners-Up (2002)
  • Fifa ranking: 43

Senegal head the group of outsiders to win this Nations Cup and this is more than understandable given the talent available to coach Amara Traore, a former international.

Traore, an unused squad member during the 2002 World Cup, has a plethora of riches in attack where he can call upon Premier League hotshot Demba Ba, new Newcastle United signing Papiss Demba Cisse as well as Lille's Moussa Sow and former Marseille star Mamadou Niang.

Set to play a 4-3-3 formation, Traore is likely to retain his captain, Niang, meaning that Ba (15 goals from 19 Premier League games), Cisse (31 in last 49 league games) and Sow (31 in 54) will have to fight for the two remaining places up front.

Senegalese football fans Senegal fans carry realistic hopes of winning a maiden African title into the finals

Did you know?

Senegal are one of only three African sides to have reached the last eight of a World Cup but unlike fellow quarter-finalists Cameroon and Ghana, the Teranga Lions have never won a Nations Cup

But boasting Africa's best attacking unit is not the only feather in Senegal's cap for the defence is also a strength.

In front of flamboyant New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul lie the central defensive pair of Kader Mangane (Rennes) and Souleymane Diawara (Marseille) - an axis that proved so strong in qualifying that Senegal conceded just two goals in a group involving Cameroon and DR Congo.

The Lions of Teranga sailed through a tough-looking qualifying group with commendable class, dropping just two points when drawing 0-0 with the Indomitable Lions in Yaounde.

The Nations Cup may provide an international swansong for Omar Daf, with the full back, 34, one of just two squad members (Souleymane Camara the other) to have contested a Nations Cup final as well as the World Cup - both of which happened ten years ago.

Following their failure to qualify for the last Nations Cup in Angola, the Senegalese have returned to the top table of African football so powerfully that the federation has tasked Traore with winning the country's first title within the next three years.

ZAMBIA

ZAMBIA FACTFILE

  • Nickname: The Chipolopolo
  • Coach: Herve Renard
  • Captain: Chris Katongo
  • Nations Cup record: Making 15th appearance
  • Best Performance: Runners-Up (1974, 1994)
  • Fifa ranking: 71

The Zambian FA (Faz) had a strange reaction to qualifying for the Nations Cup when electing to sack coach Dario Bonetti less than 48 hours after reaching this month's finals.

Former African Footballer of the Year Kalusha Bwalya, now the Faz president, claimed the Italian was not up to the job (even if politics seemed to underpin the decision) and replaced him with former coach Herve Renard shortly afterwards.

The Frenchman was in charge of Zambia's 2010 Nations Cup campaign, leading them to the quarter-finals for the first time since 1996, but left shortly afterwards to take charge of Angola for what proved a forgettable spell.

Zambia's French coach Herve Renard Renard led Zambia to the 2010 quarters, losing to Nigeria on penalties

Renard's challenge will be to meet the lofty ambitions that the Chipolopolo fans now hold but he must do so without a mainstay of his side - Jacob Mulenga, since the Holland-based striker is missing the tournament through injury.

Zambia will field a number of familiar faces, with the Katongo brothers (Chris and Felix) set for starting roles alongside Joseph Musonda, goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and key midfielder Isaac Chansa - all of whom travelled to the last three Nations Cups.

The Chipolopolo will be wary of group rivals Libya after taking just a point off the North Africans during the qualifying phase for the finals, even if Zambia did eventually finish on top of the group.

Did you know?

Zambia have reached 11 of the last 12 Nations Cup tournaments

There will be plenty of emotion for the squad in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon - off whose coast eighteen Zambian players died in a plane crash in 1993, with Bwalya only missing the ill-fated flight as he was travelling from Europe.

Incredibly, team spirit carried Chipolopolo to the following year's Nations Cup final - and current captain Chris Katongo has stressed that group unity can take Zambia far in this competition as well.

Megaupload shutdown:Largest file-sharing site

megauploadguyOne of the world's largest file-sharing sites was shut down this morning, its founder arrested in Auckland, and several company executives charged with violating piracy laws, US federal prosecutors said.

An indictment accuses Megaupload.com of costing copyright holders more than US$500 million in lost revenue from pirated films and other content. The indictment was unsealed one day after websites including Wikipedia and Craigslist shut down in protest of two congressional proposals intended to thwart online piracy.

The Justice Department said in a statement said that Kim Dotcom, formerly known as Kim Schmitz, and three others were arrested Friday morning north of Auckland at the request of US officials. Two other defendants still at large are not believed to be in New Zealand.

At around 4:45pm today, police raided an Albany address in relation to the Megaupload arrests, removing jet skis and equipment.

Schmitz appeared in North Shore District Court at 4pm this afternoon.

He spoke from the dock, overriding his lawyer to allow cameras to film him in court.

All four of the defendants appeared in the dock, they were remanded in custody to appear in the North Shore District court again on Monday morning.

Dotcom is founder, former CEO and current chief innovation officer of Megaupload.

Read the full statement on the FBI website

The arrest was carried out by the Organised & Financial Crime Agency New Zealand and police following a "mutual legal assistance request from the US to arrest individuals for the purpose of extradition".

Three properties were searched, and four arrested – three at Dotcom's place in Coatesville, and one in Orakei.

A total of 76 police and armed offenders squad officers were involved, as well as four FBI agents who assisted with the inquiry, but not the raid itself.

Police say when they arrived at Dotcom's property at 6:45am, at first Dotcom's bodyguards would not let them in. There were 15 people at the house at the time, including employees and family members.

Two shotguns were found on the property, police are looking into whether these are restricted weapons in New Zealand.

All those arrested this morning will appear in the North Shore District Court this afternoon.

Police have also seized luxury cars with an estimated total value of up to $6m.

These include a Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe valued at over NZ$500,000. Over $10m has also been seized from NZ financial institutions, including New Zealand government bonds.

"The FBI contacted New Zealand police in early 2011 with a request to assist with their investigation into the 'Mega Conspiracy'," says Det Insp Grant Wormald.

"We were happy to provide this assistance. Staff from OFCANZ and New Zealand police have worked with the US authorities over recent months to effect today's successful operation.

"All the accused have been indicted in the United States. We will continue to work with the US authorities to assist with the extradition proceedings."

The US Justice Department's indictment against the Megaupload defendants reveals a long list of assets to be forfeited as part of today’s arrests.

It also gives details on how Megaupload conducted its file sharing business, including a strategy whereby users were offered cash or other financial incentives to upload popular content, often under copyright, to the website.

Evidence in the indictment includes incriminating emails from the defendants and users and details of bank transfers involving large sums of money.

The copyright infringements list specific films including the Twilight Saga and the first instalment of the final Harry Potter movie.

Income generated from the conspiracy is listed as $175 million (US) and this is also required as part of the forfeiture.

ANONYMOUS FIGHTS BACK

Online activists Anonymous struck back almost instantly, shutting down both the US Justice Department and Universal Music's websites in a response called 'Operation Megaupload'.

Soon after, websites for the Motion Picture Association of America, British record label representatives BMI and the US Copyright office were also targeted, as well as the sites belonging to the FBI and the White House. Tech website Gizmodo called it "easily the widest in scope and ferocity we've seen in some time".

“It was in retaliation for Megaupload, as was the concurrent attack on Justice.gov,” said Anonymous operative Barret Brown.

Mr Brown also said: “more is coming” and other members of Anonymous are pursuing a joint effort with others to “damage campaign raising abilities of remaining Democrats who support SOPA”.

DOTCOM'S BATTLE TO LIVE IN NEW ZEALAND

Dotcom lives at the Chrisco mansion in Coatesville, north of Auckland, which he rents.

His application to buy it was declined by the Overseas Investment Office last year, according to the National Business Review. His application was initially approved, but then denied after then Associate Finance Minister Simon Power and Land Information Minister Maurice Williamson decided he did not meet the 'good character' test, according to the New Zealand Herald.

His application for residency was approved after he invested $10 million in government bonds and made a donation to the Christchurch earthquake fund, despite admitting two convictions – one for hacking, and another for insider trading.

In 2010 Campbell Live took a look at the life and times of Kim Dotcom

Dotcom says the convictions were wiped under a German "clean slate" law.

"Officially I am as clean as it gets," he said last year.

"I am not a bad person with a bad character and, in my opinion, Simon Power is small minded and unreasonable.

"In New Zealand, murderers have been released from prison within a decade. You would think that the New Zealand Government believes in giving people a second chance."

HOW DID MEGAUPLOAD MAKE MONEY?

Megaupload is considered a "cyberlocker", in which users can upload and transfer files that are too large to send by email. Such sites can have perfectly legitimate uses. But the Motion Picture Association of America, which has campaigned for a crackdown on piracy, estimated that the vast majority of content being shared on Megaupload was in violation of copyright laws.

The website allowed users to download films, TV shows, games, music and other content for free, but made money by charging subscriptions to people who wanted access to faster download speeds or extra content. The website also sold advertising.

The indictment was returned in the Eastern District of Virginia, which claimed jurisdiction in part because some of the alleged pirated materials were hosted on leased servers in Ashburn, Virginia.

Dotcom, a resident of both Hong Kong and New Zealand, and a dual citizen of Finland and Germany, made more than $42 million in 2010 alone, according to the indictment.

How to speed up your android

android-this-weekAccording to sources Android’s market share has reached a whooping 40% worldwide. Many users are switching to Android due to various features like huge

amount of free applications, speed, user friendly user interface and many more. Samsung is trying its best to grab the Android market share by launching its phones in various price ranges.

Android Market ShareThe huge demand and competitive prices have led to the huge growth. Mainly Samsung, Motorola and HTC are the main key players in Android though many more companies are trying to make a name.

Recently I got some speed related issues on my Android phone due to which I want to share some techniques which can result in the speed up. Even the speed related issues were reported from others as well.

Following are some of the methods which may help in boosting the speed of the android device:

1. Upgrade to the latest firmware. Since upgrading the firmware removes many bugs and loads many new features.

2. Remove unwanted or rarely used applications. Since prior to Froyo(Android 2.2) applications are installed on the phone memory. Froyo onward we need to install App2SD to install the applications on the SD Card.

3. Install a task killer application like TasKiller. It allows us to kill the unwanted running applications resulting in freeing the memory.

4. Install a start up manager like Startup Cleaner. It allows us to boost the start up by removing unwanted applications to run on boot up.

5. Restart the device weekly so that the resources get freed up. This allows the resources to get refreshed.

6. Use a static wallpaper rather than a live wallpaper. It is not applicable to Cupcake or Donut devices.

7. Avoid installing an application to modify the home screen since it eats up huge resources. Apart from that the built-in home screen application is present in the system due to which it will always perform better than the application modifying it.

These are some of the basic steps which can help in boosting the overall performance. Even there is another way to boost the performance.

The method is a bit risky since it may result in bricking the device. So move ahead with caution but if everything goes fine then it will change the whole user experience. It is CyanogenMod – An after market firmware on your device. It is very fast, and also provides many new features. It gives the user a more better control.

Note: Installing CyanogenMod voids the warranty of the device and also risk the device to be bricked but though it has a got a huge user base. And the new features it provides as well as the regular updates has overshadowed the risk. Anyways try this at your own risk!

Finally I would just like to say that these are just few tips and I am still searching for more. If you have got any method kindly let me know.

Best paid iPAD Games

What iPad games are worth paying for? The features, speed and overall coolness of the iPad 2 make Apple’s tablet a revolutionary gaming device. And iPad games are much cheaper than console games and traditional PC titles. Here are our picks of the best iPad games worth downloading right now.

Infinity Blade II ($6.99)

Infinity Blade II looks great on most modern iOS devices, but if you’re lucky enough to own an iPad 2, it’s not only stunning, it plays smoothly and brilliantly. Improving on its predecessor in almost every way, Infinity Blade II boasts a deeper storyline, better action and gameplay improvements that should keep sword-fighting action fans happy. Whereas the original Infinity Blade was sometimes seen as merely a ‘tech demo’ for the still-impressive Unreal Engine, its sequel truly steps things up a notch or two and sets a high standard for impressive iPad gaming going into 2012.

Peggle HD ($2.99)

PopCap’s classic Pachinko-like casual game looks great on the big screen of the iPad and plays even better. This fun title is highly addictive, simple to play and boasts a wonderfully colorful and quirky character that makes it stand out from the rest of the pack. Simply shoot balls to clear orange pegs from 55 levels and see if you can rack-up bonuses and style points as you go. With four different game modes and 10 fun ‘Peggle Masters’ to help you along the way, this is one game that should keep you happy for a long time.

Minecraft Pocket Edition ($6.99)

The popular and cult PC indie classic finally shows up on iPads! Now let’s be clear here: if you’re already a Minecraft afficianado, you’ll find the iPad version doesn’t offer as much as its PC counterpart, concentrating solely on the building aspect. However, it’s still a great option if you want to build on-the-go, or are new to the game. Simply put, Minecraft lets you build worlds out of blocks, and your imagination is the only limit. People have designed hugely creative objects for others to explore. While it may not be as complete an experience as the PC version, it achieves its goal by concentrating solely on the creation side of things.

Plants vs Zombies HD ($6.99)

When you’re gathering up weapons to repel the next zombie attack, don’t forget to check your backyard garden. This popular iPhone game comes in an HD iPad version that proves, in brilliant hi-def graphics, just how deadly plants can be. The zombies won’t be expecting the plant cannons, bombs, and other flora firepower, but that might be because zombies don’t expect much of anything. The HD of the iPad version provides extra real estate on which to strategically arrange your garden of death. Work to unlock the special HD only mini-game Buttered Popcorn in which you butter zombie heads and aim your corncob cannons for a direct hit.

Real Racing 2 HD ($9.99)

Real Racing 2 HD was one of the first games to take advantage of the iPad 2’s extended capabilities, letting you play the game via AirPlay wirelessly through your TV. It also takes advantage of the iPad 2’s cutting-edge hardware, so its visually stunning and very smooth to control. Offering 30 licensed cars to drive in 15 different locations, there’s 10 hours of championship cup mode to enjoy along with head-to-head racing, time-trial and elimination modes. You can even compete with up to 16 other racers via multiplayer mode. Real Racing 2 HD is one of the most complete racing experiences you’ll encounter on iOS devices and offers a console-like experience right in the palm of your hands.

Pinball HD ($0.99)

Say it out loud – the iPad makes some things better than they are in real life. Take pinball for example. No more hoofing out to the bowling alley or arcade, no more hunting to find quarters or tokens, just pure silver ball fun. Pinball HD delivers incredible 3D gameplay and a clever dynamic camera view that follows the ball around the table to stay close to the action. Play three different pinball tables – The Deep, Wild West, and Jungle. Each features cool effects that would be difficult or impossible to reproduce on a real pinball table. Also, the game starts with a tour of the tables explaining how to reach the highest scores.

Scrabble for iPad ($9.99)

The classic vocabulary-building game joins the 21st century, and lets you play in multiple exciting modes. You can challenge your iPad or play against your Facebook friends. “Network Play” finds other iPads around you, while “Pass ‘n’ Play” features multiplayer Scrabble where you hand your iPad around. There’s also the “Party Play” mode, the most high-tech of the bunch, where you and your friends download an app to your iPhones and use them as your tile racks alongside the iPad. We all know Scrabble is great, and now its been transformed into a better iPad game.

Angry Birds HD ($4.99)

Remember Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds? Like the classic horror movie, the avian protagonists in Rovio’s game phenomenon of 2010 have taken over, but for the iPad, they’re in hi-def! The story remains the same: Greedy pigs have stolen the eggs of nearby birds. Now, on a desperate suicide mission, the birds must take out the pigs in their ever-increasingly secure forts, made of brick, wood and other sturdy materials. You slingshot the birds toward the forts and tap to trigger their secret powers – turbo, cluster bombs, and more. The eye-popping graphics, funny sound effects, and supremely addictive game play, make it worth the money.

Osmos for iPad ($4.99)

Get in touch with your inner single-celled organism. You’re a mote and you must complete your missions – most centering around absorbing other motes and growing – by expelling mass to move around. Like Apple products in general, there are few instructions: you learn by doing. What makes it great? The visuals are stunning on this HD version. The game play is more meditatively relaxing than frustrating. And, the ambient music soundtrack will chill you out. Control your mote’s movements by gentle taps and slow or speed up the action with a slider. Ultimately, it’s beautiful and, ahem, absorbing!

Zen Bound 2 Universal ($2.99)

When you need to chillax after playing the other high-energy games on this list, find your inner peace with Zen Bound 2 Universal. Imagine wandering through a Zen garden and coming upon a 3-D puzzle of wooden blocks and rope. You must rotate the beautiful wooden objects by tilting your iPad so that the rope winds itself around it and paints the entire surface, as paint spreads out from each point where the rope touches the wood. Many appropriately named levels – Obedience, Reflextion, Focus, etc. – keep you engaged. A relaxing soundtrack completes the scene.

Google Plus: 8 Quick Tips and Tricks Getting started with Google's new social networking service?

google_plus We have a few quick tips to get you oriented.

By Patrick Miller, PCWorld    Jul 1, 2011 9:22 pm

Google Plus (aka Google+), Google's new social network, might offer the right mix of sharing and privacy to woo you away from your Facebook account. If you don't know how to use it, though, it's just a confusing mess of circles and contacts. So we've assembled a few tips to help you get started. (If you aren't on Google Plus yet, try our Google Plus invite trick.)

Google Plus email notifications; click for full-size image.Google Plus email notifications. Tweak your email notification options. By default, Google Plus will spam your Gmail account with notifications for practically anything involving your new account. You can go to the Google Account options to uncheck all of the ones you don't want to get, thereby reducing your Gmail traffic considerably.

Google Plus profile sharing settings; click for full-size image.Google Plus profile sharing settings. Change your profile's field-sharing settings. Your Google Account has certain basic fields that it can share with anyone--but you don't have to go along with maximum sharing. Open your Google Account Profile and privacy settings, click Edit visibility on profile, and then click the individual profile fields and determine how public you want to make them.

Disable resharing in Google Plus; click for full-size image.Disable resharing in Google Plus. Disable resharing. Google Plus may make it easy for you to segregate who you share your information with, but your connections have no such limitations, meaning that something you share with a select few can still spread like wildfire across your networks. Nevertheless, you can disable resharing of a certain post after posting it: Just click the arrow in the upper-right-hand corner of the post and then click Disable resharing.

Check your Incoming feed. Unlike Facebook, Google Plus lets people share things with you even if you're not following them. Consequently you'll want to check your Incoming feed now and then to see whether you're missing out on anything interesting from someone you don't follow. Think of it as a spam folder that occasionally contains something interesting.

The Your Circles option in Google Plus; click for full-size image. The Your Circles option in Google Plus saves you a few clicks. Use the Your Circles option while sharing. Google Plus's Circles system is great for letting you use your Plus account to set barriers between the various groups of people you want to share things with. If most of what you share on Google Plus isn't especially privacy-sensitive, however, use the Your Circles sharing option to automatically share items with all of your circles and avoid the trouble of clicking each individual circle.

Start some Sparks. In addition to following people, you can search for interesting stuff to share about particular topics in the Sparks section on the side menu of the main page. Click Sparks, and search for things that you're interested in or browse through the featured topics; if you want to pin a search on your sidebar for easy future access, click the Add Interest button under the search field.

Click through profile pictures. You can easily cycle through other people's profile pics by clicking on them.

Text formatting in Google Plus; click for full-size image.Text formatting in Google Plus. Add some basic formatting. As with Google Talk and Google Buzz, you can add basic text styles to some of your Google Plus text. Paired asterisks (*text*) make bold text, paired underscores (_text_) make italics, and paired dashes (-text-) make strikethroughs.
